Performing Arts Icon Performing Arts

Our school has significantly developed the ADA program (Academy of Dramatic Art), allowing students to manage their time and participate in performing arts training according to their schedules. We offer extended courses in dance techniques, vocal skills, classical performance, and physical training. Many of our performing arts students have gone on to attend prestigious drama schools such as the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, New York Film Academy, London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), and American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA).

The King's Theatre is Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate's performing arts center, a professional venue that can accommodate over 300 spectators. Live performance is at the heart of our performing arts teaching, and we typically produce three large-scale dramatic works each year, including: Ghost Night, an original work popular for its horror performances, a showcase production, and Fitness and Dance. Co-Curricular Activities Icon Offering a Rich Co-Curricular Program

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF)

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is divided into the Army section (Yorkshire Regiment) and the Royal Air Force section, open to students in Year 8 and above. The military training is exciting and challenging, providing students the opportunity to learn new skills while participating in a range of military-themed adventure training activities such as: exercises, shooting, leadership, control tasks, flying, survival skills, first aid, navigation, and adventure training like mountain biking, paddleboarding, climbing, and kayaking. CCF offers students the chance to make new friends and enjoy fun and adventure in a safe environment. In addition to developing teamwork, confidence, leadership, and self-reliance skills, CCF provides students with the opportunity to develop real-life skills such as first aid and navigation. The training also ties in with the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Besides regular training content, the Army and Royal Air Force sections focus on developing their specific activities, including parade evenings, training days and camps, overseas courses, and exercise opportunities.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the world's leading youth achievement award, offering millions of 14-24-year-olds nationwide the opportunity to be the best they can be. We strongly encourage students to participate in QE’s Duke of Edinburgh Award, as the benefits of completing the award extend far beyond their positive experiences. Future employers, colleges, and universities highly value the Duke of Edinburgh Award, recognizing the efforts, adventurous spirit, and dedication of the award recipients.

Charity Fundraising and Volunteering

Charity fundraising is an important part of school life, bringing the entire QE community together for a significant cause. At the beginning of each academic year, all students and staff participate in voting to select six charities for fundraising, ensuring everyone can suggest meaningful charities for which we raise funds each year. Besides these six main charities, we regularly organize events throughout the year to raise funds for various other charities based on suggestions from students, staff, parents, and local charity contacts, including large dinners, bake sales, non-uniform days, Macmillan Coffee Morning, Easter egg and Valentine's Day rose giveaways, and more.

Boarding Life

QEGUK: Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate is the first school in the UK to receive QEGUK accreditation, proving that QE is one of the few educational institutions in the UK committed to the highest standards of care for international and all students.

QEGUK Accreditation Highlights:

• Equal Treatment: International students enjoy the same level of care and protection as UK students.

• Cultural Sensitivity: Staff carefully consider cultural issues and the connection between care, education, and learning.

• Excellent Pastoral Care: Pastoral care is highly organized, reflecting forward-thinking considerations for well-being and health.

• Modern Management: Effective management of boarding to ensure accommodation arrangements, student care, and support meet contemporary demands.

• Holistic Development: A consensus within the college that students sometimes need personal space and relaxation, with professional, dedicated staff benefiting students for life.

• Care for International Students: International students feel at home and welcome at QE. They praise the pastoral and academic support, facilities, and opportunities, as well as the staff's attention to safety and mental health.

Boarding students can participate in a variety of activities, including traditional QE game time, weekend baking, cooking nights, and student-hosted social events, which are just some of the activities students can enjoy with roommates who may become lifelong friends.

In the management of boarding houses, student voices are crucial. We have established several groups to ensure that the activities we offer meet everyone's needs. The boarding student management group, consisting of student representatives, food committees, and others, regularly provides feedback to the QE boarding management team on activities, social events, and internal rules.

Student welfare is the top priority of our boarding services. At the beginning of each academic year, we assign all students a boarding tutor who meets with them regularly through one-on-one and group sessions.

Because boarding students participate in numerous social activities each year, QE has many opportunities to teach students social etiquette and celebrate the diverse cultural traditions of boarding students. We believe recognizing the significant moments that constitute QE’s diverse culture is crucial, and we have found that our international club remains one of the most popular boarding clubs each year. During club meetings, students gather weekly to discuss different cultures, explore cuisine, share experiences, and celebrate various holidays.

Each boarding room is equipped with a plasma TV with a timer, a mini kitchen with a refrigerator, a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, a washbasin, a heated towel rail, and a fan. All rooms are air-conditioned and come with en-suite bathrooms and showers. Sixth Form students share apartment-style accommodation to prepare for independent living at university. All our boarding houses have comfortable common areas for socializing with friends, activities, and relaxation.
