QEGUK: Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate is the first school in the UK to receive QEGUK accreditation, proving that QE is one of the few educational institutions in the UK committed to the highest standards of care for international and all students.
QEGUK Accreditation Highlights:
• Equal Treatment: International students enjoy the same level of care and protection as UK students.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Staff carefully consider cultural issues and the connection between care, education, and learning.
• Excellent Pastoral Care: Pastoral care is highly organized, reflecting forward-thinking considerations for well-being and health.
• Modern Management: Effective management of boarding to ensure accommodation arrangements, student care, and support meet contemporary demands.
• Holistic Development: A consensus within the college that students sometimes need personal space and relaxation, with professional, dedicated staff benefiting students for life.
• Care for International Students: International students feel at home and welcome at QE. They praise the pastoral and academic support, facilities, and opportunities, as well as the staff's attention to safety and mental health.
Boarding students can participate in a variety of activities, including traditional QE game time, weekend baking, cooking nights, and student-hosted social events, which are just some of the activities students can enjoy with roommates who may become lifelong friends.
In the management of boarding houses, student voices are crucial. We have established several groups to ensure that the activities we offer meet everyone's needs. The boarding student management group, consisting of student representatives, food committees, and others, regularly provides feedback to the QE boarding management team on activities, social events, and internal rules.
Student welfare is the top priority of our boarding services. At the beginning of each academic year, we assign all students a boarding tutor who meets with them regularly through one-on-one and group sessions.
Because boarding students participate in numerous social activities each year, QE has many opportunities to teach students social etiquette and celebrate the diverse cultural traditions of boarding students. We believe recognizing the significant moments that constitute QE’s diverse culture is crucial, and we have found that our international club remains one of the most popular boarding clubs each year. During club meetings, students gather weekly to discuss different cultures, explore cuisine, share experiences, and celebrate various holidays.
Each boarding room is equipped with a plasma TV with a timer, a mini kitchen with a refrigerator, a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, a washbasin, a heated towel rail, and a fan. All rooms are air-conditioned and come with en-suite bathrooms and showers. Sixth Form students share apartment-style accommodation to prepare for independent living at university. All our boarding houses have comfortable common areas for socializing with friends, activities, and relaxation.
