Red sandstone: origin of Danxia
Red sandstone was born in the ancient crustal movement, dating back to more than 200 million years ago, when China gradually changed from sea to land, and the surrounding basins gradually formed sedimentary rocks such as sand conglomerate by the effect of river sediment. These sedimentary rocks, rich in iron oxide, exhibit a distinctive red color and become known as Danxia landform.
