China Eastern Airlines and China State Railway Group on Tuesday launched a new service that allows passengers to buy airplane and train tickets through either of their booking platforms.

According to Li Yangmin, president of China Eastern, this collaboration between the two companies is just the beginning as there will be more of such cooperation to provide passengers with a hassle-free travel experience.

"We launched this service to make passengers' ticket purchasing more convenient," said Feng Dehua, vice-president of China Eastern.

In the first phase of this collaboration, the two platforms will be able to provide suggestions on the most convenient transfer options available to those traveling on both modes of transportation. But the suggestions will only be limited to transfers made at the Shanghai Hongqiao hub, which has an airport and a railway station.

In the following phases, the systems will be upgraded to provide such options in areas and regions including Beijing, Guangzhou of Guangdong province, Chengdu of Sichuan province, Nanjing of Jiangsu province, Hangzhou of Zhejiang province, Wuhan of Hubei province and Xi'an of Shaanxi province, said Feng.
